A tree came down. Here is what to do first.

by Fant's Landscape

Stay clear of the tree and look for wires first. Call 911 if anyone is hurt. If nobody is in danger, call your insurance company before anyone cuts the tree.

Make sure everyone is safe

  • Move people and pets away from the tree and from the side of the house it is on.
  • Look up before you step closer. Treat any wire in or under the tree as live.
  • Do not touch the tree, a wire, or anything wet that is near them.
  • Call 911 if anyone is hurt, or if there is fire or smoke.

If a power line is involved

MLGW asks homeowners not to attempt any tree work if power lines are near. To report a tree interfering with a line, call MLGW at 901-544-6549.

Call your insurance company

Call before anyone cuts or moves the tree, and ask what they need from you.

Take photos first: the tree, the damage, and the yard around it.

If it blocks a street or sidewalk

Call your city about a tree that blocks a public street or sidewalk.

Leave the cutting for later

A tree resting on a house or on another tree can shift when it is cut. Leave it alone until someone has looked at it.

Tell us about the job.

Once everyone is safe and your insurer knows, call or text Darren at 901-406-6005. Tell him where the tree is and what it is on, and send a photo if you can. He will tell you if it is a job he can take. The estimate is free, and the quote comes in writing after he looks at the tree. For anything urgent, call 911 or MLGW first.
